Laura Huffman is an associate in the Atlanta office of King & Spalding and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Counseling practice. Her practice includes all aspects of intellectual property litigation and counseling with a primary emphasis on patent litigation. She represents Fortune 100 clients in patent infringement lawsuits in federal district courts across the United States and the International Trade Commission, including cases involving optical devices and fabrication, optical systems, telecommunications equipment, and information systems.
Laura holds the BEE and MSEE degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology, both with highest honors. She studied semiconductor devices with a focus on optical communications devices and theory.
She received her Juris Doctor, with honors, from the Emory University School of Law in 2008. While in law school, Laura was Editor-in-Chief of the Emory International Law Review. She served on a team of technical, management and law students commercializing an application of nanotechnology in disease diagnosis that won awards in international commercialization plan and business plan competitions.
Prior to attending law school, Laura worked as an engineer and manager in the telecommunications equipment industry for a major global manufacturer for more than two decades. She began her career as a Bell Laboratories Member of Technical Staff, conducting research and development on various transmission issues. She worked on many leading edge technologies during her career, including the design and prototyping of a variety of optical application specific ICs. Before she left the industry to go to law school, her responsibilities included product management, product marketing, business development, intellectual property strategy and public policy.
Laura is admitted to practice in Georgia, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
