On 12 January 2024, the regulation on the remuneration systems of investment firms (Wertpapierinstituts-Vergütungsverordnung – WpIVergV) entered into force as the latest component of the financial industry’s remuneration regulation.
The WpIVergV applies directly to medium-sized investment firms and (via the groupwide remuneration strategy) also to the group entities of an investment firm group; therefore, banks/financial services providers and fund managers that are members of an investment firm group may also be covered. We will explain the scope of application and the new requirements of the WpIVergV.
Beyond their scope, most new requirements on the remuneration systems of the financial industry also serve as “trend setters” for the regulation of other financial market participants that are not covered by the new requirements. We will therefore also discuss similarities and discrepancies between the new WpIVergV and the existing regulation of the remuneration systems of banks/financial services providers and fund managers.
