BRUSSELS, Aug. 24, 2021 – King & Spalding has added competition partner Salomé Cisnal De Ugarte as partner in its Brussels office. She joins the firm’s Global Antitrust practice.
Cisnal De Ugarte advises clients on all aspects of EU and national competition law. She has substantial experience in cross-border mergers and strategic joint ventures, obtaining clearance for transactions from the European Commission and national competition authorities worldwide. She equally represents clients in complex antitrust investigations and counsels on compliance issues.
“Salomé is a highly-regarded competition lawyer and an important addition to our team in Brussels,” said Zach Fardon, head of the firm’s Government Matters practice. “Competition law is one of the cornerstones of the transatlantic legal market and our clients are increasingly involved in cross-border matters. Having a lawyer of Salomé’s standing and stature, with over 20 years of experience in Brussels, allows us to offer the high-end advice that our clients require.”
Cisnal De Ugarte joins from Hogan Lovells, where she was a partner in the Antitrust and Competition group and served as Office Managing Partner. She is recognized as a leading EU competition lawyer by publications, such as, Chambers & Partners, Legal 500, Global Competition Review and Who's Who Legal. In 2018 she was named one of the 20 “Women Who Shape Brussels” by Politico Europe. She frequently lectures on EU competition law and serves on the Harvard Alumni Board as an Elected Director.
Cisnal De Ugarte becomes the third partner in the Brussels office, joining international trade partner Marie-Sophie Dibling and life sciences partner Geneviève Michaux.
“Salomé represents another significant expansion for our Brussels team and demonstrates King & Spalding’s commitment to growing the office in those areas of law that are vital for our clients,” added Daniel Crosby, office managing partner for Brussels. “We launched the office in 2019 with a focus on international trade before adding life sciences and now competition capabilities. These practice areas are critical for our clients’ international operations so having lawyers such as Marie-Sophie, Geneviève and now Salomé, in Brussels is key to helping our clients succeed.”
