backWashington, D.C, January 13, 2025 – King & Spalding announced today that leading global investigations and technology lawyer Nema Milaninia has joined the firm as a partner in its Special Matters and Government Investigations practice group. Milaninia is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Milaninia most recently served at the U.S. State Department as a senior advisor in the Biden-Harris Administration, including on policy matters relating to cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI), shaping U.S. foreign policy priorities in emerging tech, as well as international criminal matters, public international law and conflict prevention. Prior to his government service, Milaninia was senior counsel at Google, where as part of the Alphabet Regulatory Response, Investigations & Strategy team he managed a portfolio of high-risk matters and represented the company in high-profile investigations in the U.S. and internationally.

Milaninia earned his undergraduate degree from the University of California, San Diego and his J.D. from University of California College of Law, San Francisco. He also earned a master’s degree in law from Oxford University and worked for nine years as a trial and appeals prosecutor addressing war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide at the International Criminal Court and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former country of Yugoslavia.
