As decommissioning and abandonment obligations become an increasingly onerous part of oil & gas operations, a comprehensive review of “best practices” is timely. King & Spalding will host the first of a multi-part series on decommissioning. This half-day forum will be the only U.S.-based program in the series, with similar programs planned to take place in Singapore and London later in 2017.
The Houston event promises to address decommissioning issues from all angles, with experienced speakers hailing from private practice, in-house legal departments, technical consulting firms, and government offices. The main topics will include:
- Transactions (how to factor decommissioning into sale and purchase decisions);
- Implementation (how to carry out decommissioning obligations in practice, in compliance with EHS and other regulatory requirements and contracting with decommissioning contractors); and
- Disputes (how to optimize positions with regard to liability and risk exposure, including government, third-party, and co-party claims)
