Mike Galdo focuses on complex investigations, especially those with cyber, transnational, or national security implications. Mike recently joined King & Spalding after serving for over 15 years as a federal prosecutor, including as the Department of Justice’s Director of COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement in the Office of the Deputy Attorney General. There, Mike led the Department’s criminal, civil, and forfeiture enforcement efforts pursuing those who committed or facilitated billions of dollars in fraud against pandemic relief programs.
Mike was also the Assistant United States Attorney in Charge of Cybercrime for the Western District of Texas, leading investigations into malware distributors, cryptocurrency exchanges, business email compromise offenses, money launderers, and other cybercrime offenses. Mike also spent nearly a decade as a national security prosecutor, investigating and charging export control violations for the unlawful export of sensitive technology and terrorism offenses, including the investigation and charging of the 2018 Austin Serial Bomber.
Mike has extensive experience working with federal, state, and local law enforcement in the United States, having established multiple COVID-19 Fraud Enforcement strike forces around the country with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, law enforcement, and Office of Inspector General participants, and Mike has worked closely with foreign law enforcement partners on transnational cyber, national security matters, including export control prosecutions and extraditions.
Mike has prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases and has tried more than 40 bench and jury trials, including multi-week trials charging money laundering, drug trafficking, and violent crime offenses, and prosecuted white-collar offenses such as financial institution fraud and public corruption.
