Matthias is a member of the firm's International Trade practice and advises clients on a broad range of trade law matters, with a particular focus on economic sanctions and export controls.
Based in London, he provides clients with day-to-day advisory and transaction support in relation to economic sanctions and export controls issues. In addition, he regularly assists clients in the development and implementation of effective compliance programs. His experience covers a wide variety of industries including aviation, consumer products, infrastructure, financial services, maritime and shipping, and oil and gas.
Prior to joining King & Spalding, Matthias worked in the Brussels and New York offices of two other global law firms, where he gained substantial experience in trade law. He also worked as an international consultant for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in Ethiopia.
Matthias holds a Master of Law degree from the Catholic University of Leuven. During his master's degree program, he was part of an international exchange program at the National University of Singapore. Matthias also obtained an Advanced Master in International Relations and Diplomacy from Antwerp University.
