Matt's practice focuses on government investigations and litigation, including white-collar criminal defense for individuals and corporations. Matt is a former judicial clerk to the Honorable Morrison C. England Jr. in the United States District Court, Eastern District of California, where he gained extensive familiarity with litigation procedure and practice. Matt also has litigation experience in complex civil litigation, employment, and corporate governance matters.

Matt graduated Order of the Coif from UC Davis School of Law (King Hall). He served as a senior editor for the UC Davis Law Review and a teaching assistant in Criminal Law.

Matt previously served in the United States Army, deploying to combat on several occasions. He dedicates pro bono time to veterans and their families.
