Chris Eby represents leading companies in products liability, mass tort, and complex commercial litigation in federal and state courts across the country. He navigates clients through all stages of cases—from pre-litigation diligence, to initial fact gathering and data preservation, through discovery and motions practice, up to trial and post-trial appellate proceedings. He has taken and defended dozens of depositions of fact and expert witnesses, orally argued dispositive motions and trial issues such as jury instructions, and third-chaired high-stakes jury trials in some of the most challenging venues for defendants in the country. In addition, Chris has defended large corporations, elected officials, and private individuals in federal regulatory and criminal investigations.
Chris's clients include pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer products, aerospace, fintech, and software companies. As a former federal law clerk to a district-court judge and a chief court-of-appeals judge, Chris knows what arguments persuade trial judges and what issues make appellate judges tick.
Chris also maintains an active pro bono practice, particularly in federal immigration court. He has secured asylum for persecuted individuals from Russia, Eritrea, Mexico, and Venezuela—in each case persuading an immigration judge, after extended briefing and a merits hearing, to release the asylee from detention and grant deportation relief.
Chris received his undergraduate degree summa cum laude from Georgia College & State University, earning the highest GPA in his graduating class. Between his undergraduate and law school studies, Chris translated several works of French philosophy into English and worked as a line cook in restaurants. Before graduating with honors from The University of Chicago Law School, Chris served as Executive Articles Editor of The Chicago Journal of International Law and as a student lawyer managing Title VII class actions brought by The University of Chicago's Mandel Legal Aid Clinic.
