Amy Schuller Hitchcock’s practice focuses on internal investigations, government investigations, compliance counseling, and complex white-collar criminal defense. Amy joins King & Spalding as a Partner in its Special Matters and Government Investigations practice after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of California, experience that she leverages to help clients across sectors successfully navigate, resolve, and prevent criminal matters. Amy also has extensive experience conducting cross-border internal investigations and compliance counseling for multinational corporations.
As an Assistant U.S. Attorney, Amy investigated and prosecuted federal offenses including fraud, tax violations, cybercrime, and public corruption. She served as the Eastern District of California’s Elder Justice Coordinator, implementing the DOJ’s national initiative to combat financial abuse and fraud against elders. Amy also served as the Eastern District of California’s Unemployment Insurance Fraud Coordinator, where she had a central role in coordinating the District and state’s efforts to combat Pandemic Unemployment Assistance fraud and CARES Act fraud. She recently received recognition from the U.S. Department of Labor for her achievements.
Prior to her government service, Amy conducted international and domestic internal investigations for multinational corporations, including investigations in Asia, Africa, South America, Canada, and the European Union. She also defended individuals and corporations in a variety of criminal matters, with a particular focus on Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and criminal antitrust matters.

With former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, conducted an independent investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and abuse in women's professional soccer, commissioned by the U.S. Soccer Federation. The widely-publicized investigation culminated in a public report and recommendations which lead to systemic change across the sport.
Serves as Fraud Special Counsel appointed by the Office of the California Governor to address and combat pandemic benefit fraud perpetrated on the California Employment Development Department. Our work and coordination with federal, state, and local authorities has facilitated the prosecution of dozens of cases and helped recover billions in fraudulently-obtained unemployment insurance payments.
Conducted a large-scale internal investigation into corporate bribery and conflicts of interest for a major retailer, consulting on parallel vendor litigation. The investigation’s findings and recommendations were deemed a “game-changer” by compliance and ethics leadership.
