Washington, D.C., January 14, 2025 – King & Spalding announced today that former U.S. Department of Commerce official Ryan Majerus has joined the firm as a partner on the International Trade team in its Government Matters and Regulation practice group. Majerus is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Majerus most recently served as the acting Assistant Secretary for Enforcement and Compliance at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In this role, he oversaw administrative litigation and enforcement policies of the U.S. antidumping and countervailing duty laws, among other areas.
Previously, he served as Senior Policy Advisor for Supply Chains at the White House National Economic Council and as Assistant General Counsel at the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) during the first Trump Administration. He also served for five years with the Civil Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ), where he represented Commerce as lead counsel in numerous trade remedies cases before the U.S. Court of International Trade and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
“With his well-rounded senior-level trade experience having worked for DOJ, USTR and the Commerce Department under both Democrat and Republican administrations, Ryan brings critical insights that our clients will value as well as instant credibility with regulators and policymakers,” said Steve Orava, leader of the firm’s International Trade team. “Ryan is well known to our International Trade partners and has a reputation for being a strong collaborator and a team player, so we are looking forward to having him on our team as we respond to strong demand for our world-class trade capabilities, particularly in light of the importance that trade will play in the economic agenda of the new administration.”
Majerus earned his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
“King & Spalding has an established and highly respected International Trade practice that I am eager to join,” said Majerus. “Demand for trade counsel is only going to increase, and the firm offers a unique opportunity to team with the best in the business to advise on pressing trade, national security, and supply chain policy issues and grow a strong practice litigating anti-dumping and countervailing duty cases.”
