Washington, D.C., January 15, 2024 – King & Spalding announced today that Lauren Roth, former U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Associate Commissioner for Policy, has joined the firm as a partner on the FDA and Life Sciences team in its Government Matters and Regulation practice group. Roth is based in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
Roth is a food and drug lawyer and policymaker with eight years of experience in senior leadership roles at the FDA. As the Associate Commissioner for Policy in the FDA Office of the Commissioner, Roth participated in the establishment of complex and novel FDA policies across the agency’s entire spectrum of regulated industries. Prior to that role, Roth served as Senior Advisor to the FDA’s Chief of Staff and as the Associate Director for Strategy and Regulatory Operations for the Center for Devices and Radiological Health. Prior to her work in government, Roth spent several years as Assistant General Counsel at the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) and, before that, as a life sciences lawyer at a large international law firm.
“Lauren operated at the highest levels of FDA across multiple administrations, making her ideally situated to help our pharmaceutical and medical device clients navigate the complex and evolving legal, regulatory and strategic landscape,” said Nikki Reeves, co-leader of the firm’s Government Matters and Regulation practice group. “Lauren is well-respected both inside and outside the FDA and brings extensive experience with issues including pre- and post-market regulation of drugs and devices, regulation of human food, and implementation of new FDA authorities related to cosmetic products, among many others. She will be a very valuable addition to our team for our clients.”
Roth earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and her law degree from the University of Virginia Law School.
“King & Spalding has a strong reputation within the FDA and is a destination practice for FDA-regulated companies, so when I was looking for a firm where I could grow my practice, it was the obvious choice,” said Roth. “I’m eager to dig in on advising clients, especially in guiding them through the challenges and uncertainties that will arise during the transition to a new administration.”
