Gente Oil Wins Landmark Award

On May 24, 2022, King & Spalding obtained a $10.7 million dollar award in damages for breach of contract, including moral damages, plus interest, costs, and legal fees for client Gente Oil. The K&S team achieved to prove that Ecuador acted with malice aforethought (which harmed the client’s business reputation), reason for which the client obtained moral damages — making this the first-ever case in which an international award grants such damages against the country.
