Katherine Vessels is an associate in our International Trade practice with an emphasis on unfair import investigations at the U.S. International Trade Commission. She focuses on representing clients in trade remedy proceedings and intellectual property litigation.
Katherine is a strategic and pragmatic advisor adept at understanding business processes with expertise in international trade compliance counseling and process improvement as well as trade and intellectual property-related litigation.
Prior to joining the firm, Katherine externed with the U.S. International Trade Commission’s Office of Unfair Import Investigations staff. She has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law, teaching courses on international law and intellectual property litigation. She also is a combat veteran and former U.S. Army logistician, and has also worked in the Philippines, Thailand, and Belgium on maritime security, maritime commerce, and international ocean law issues.
Her training as a U.S. Army logistician provides an in-depth understanding of how to identify and address supply chain issues, and her experiences as a combat veteran translate to composure under pressure with an enhanced ability to understand how to address immediate issues in a manner that enables the team’s strategic success. Her technical background and practical experiences with all manner of legal systems and technologies while consulting and sailing the Pacific allows her to provide unique insight on trade compliance matters as well as patent, trademark, and trade secret litigation over a wide range of technologies.
