PALO ALTO, Calif., August 11, 2014 — King & Spalding has recruited intellectual property partner Thomas J. Gray, who for many years was co-leader of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe’s trade secrets sub-group, to enhance the firm’s patent and trade secret litigation team in Silicon Valley.
Gray focuses on complex intellectual property litigation and counseling with an emphasis on patent litigation, internet-related matters and trade secret litigation. He joins West Coast IP partners Michael F. Heafey (patent litigation) and Emma Maconick (transactions) in King & Spalding’s Palo Alto office and Kenneth L. Steinthal (media litigation) in the firm’s San Francisco office.
“Tom is a very talented lawyer who adds to the bench strength of our California IP team,” said Holmes J. Hawkins III, leader of King & Spalding’s intellectual property practice group. “His technology-oriented patent and trade secrets litigation experience makes him a natural fit for both our Silicon Valley office and our national practice.”
Gray said: “I am delighted to be at King & Spalding, whose collaborative culture is very appealing, and once again work with my former Orrick colleague Mike Heafey. Together we will concentrate on growing the firm’s California IP practice, especially in patent litigation.”
King & Spalding’s full-service intellectual property practice combines proven first-chair trial and business lawyers with true scientific specialists. The practice consists of more than 100 IP professionals, including more than 80 lawyers, agents and technical advisors with technical degrees, located in the firm’s offices in Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte, Houston, Moscow, New York, San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Washington, D.C. The practice was selected as a 2013 “Intellectual Property Practice Group of the Year” by Law360.
