Cedar LNG Achieves Final Investment Decision on Indigenous-Owned, Hydro-Powered Floating LNG Facility

King & Spalding advised Cedar LNG on an engineering, procurement, and construction contract and associated agreements related to the floating LNG production facility (FLNG) forming part of the Cedar LNG Project, a facility with a nameplate capacity of 3.3 million tonnes per annum ("mtpa"), located in the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation, on Canada’s West Coast. Pembina Pipeline Corp., a leading energy transportation and midstream service provider, is 49.9% owner of the project, with the Haisla Nation, a Canadian Indigenous tribe, as majority owner. When built, the Cedar LNG facilities will represent one of only a handful of floating LNG facilities in the world and the first of its kind in North America. Cedar LNG will also be the first Indigenous-majority-owned LNG export facility anywhere in the world. The facility will be powered with renewable electricity from BC Hydro, making it one of the lowest emitting LNG facilities in the world. For further details about this project, please see Cedar LNG’s press release here. The King & Spalding construction team was led by partner Jonathan Katz (Houston).
