King & Spalding Adds Partner Barry Kamar to Special Matters and Government Investigations Practice in Miami

Miami, April 30, 2024 – King & Spalding announced today that Barry Kamar has joined the firm’s Special Matters and Government Investigations practice group as a partner. He is based in the firm’s Miami office.

Kamar has extensive experience investigating, litigating and conducting criminal and civil trials in federal and state courts. As a former federal prosecutor, he has led investigations and trials involving securities fraud, money laundering and violent offenses. He also served in the Division of Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he investigated, charged and litigated securities fraud cases.

“Barry’s diverse litigation and investigations background plants a strong flag for our practice in Miami, and his entrepreneurial drive, his language skills and his extensive relationships in the Middle East and Latin America further strengthen the firm’s deep connections to those regions,” said Mark Jensen, co-leader of the firm’s Special Matters and Government Investigations practice group. “In particular, Barry – having grown up in the UAE, Oman and Egypt, and as a fluent Arabic speaker – will further our links between our practices and clients in the U.S. and the Middle East, where the firm has thrived for many years.”

Kamar joins the firm from Miami boutique firm Meland Budwick, where he was a partner. Prior to that, he served as Managing Director of Westfleet Advisors, a litigation funding advisory firm. He previously served as Assistant U.S. Attorney and Chief of the Public Protection Unit for the District of New Jersey and as Senior Counsel in the Division of Enforcement at the SEC’s New York Regional Office. He earned his J.D. and his B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas. Before law school, Kamar was an investment banker at a top multinational financial institution executing mergers and acquisitions as well as corporate financings, and an economist at a global accounting firm.

“King & Spalding’s sophisticated platform gives me a great opportunity to grow my practice while contributing to the overall growth of the Special Matters and Government Investigations team and the Miami office,” said Kamar. “I’m particularly excited about how I can collaborate with our Middle East offices and our strong Latin America practice to build on my roots and connections in those regions and expand the ways the firm can serve clients there.”
